Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. People unfamiliar with the term frequently think that it's an island that's to the west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the Lachine city. Lachine west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel grew to be a woman of a certain age within Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Her initial ambition was to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends were no longer able to dance along with her. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." When I outgrew my male partners I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel it was because of the advice of her drama teacher at high school that led her to the path she needed. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work has been featured on both the small and big screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her character of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and only appeared occasionally.
